Tamarra Jayasundera Sri Lankan, b. b. 1989

Tamarra Jayasundera (b. 1989, Sri Lanka) is a self-taught artist who employs both modern and old handmade inscribing tools in her practice. Having grown up in England and Sri Lanka, Tamarra reveals herself through mediums that depict the belonging of two cultures. She uses metals' natural textures combined with deliberate mark-making and engraving to reflect a symbiotic relationship between humans and the natural world. Her primary medium is layered abstract painting, where she utilizes copper, brass, and stainless steel with oxidizing agents. Her signature flowing lines depict vibration and curved feminine energy. This process of alchemy and technique depicts contradicting forces as a means of overcoming through equanimous practice.
