Laki Senanayake Sri Lankan, 1937-2021

Laki's artistic career began when he first exhibited with the Young Artist Group in 1957 and thereafter sporadically for many years. His first one man show was held in 1957 at the Lionel Wendt Gallery. He has since exhibited at the Colombo Public Library and, many times since at the Barefoot Gallery.


Among his achievements is the design of a series of Sri Lankan bank notes, one of which forms the cover of a celebrated book on the currencies of the world.


His major contribution of Sri Lankan public life has been in the field of mural painting and sculpture in public buildings. His notable public works include the magnificent central chandelier, conceived as a ceiling sculpture at the Parliament, Kotte; the batik mural for Sri Lankan Expo 67; the aluminum sculpture for Sri Lankan pavilion Expo70; the mural at the Seylan trust Bank and the ceiling and mural and sculpture at the Indo- Suez Bank. These are in addition to the many drawings, reliefs and sculpture adorning the prominent hotels in Sri Lanka.
