Chaminda Gamage Sri Lankan

Chaminda began to show an interest in painting since childhood. From the early 90s he has been recognized as an upcoming force in the art arena. Due to the dedication to his art, he has received numerous awards including State award for the outstanding painter of the year, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Sri Lanka in1996 and Sri Lankan entry to the Coca-Cola Bottle exhibition, USA for 1998 Olympics. He had few solo exhibitions in 1997 at Heritage Gallery, Colombo, in 1998 at Heritage Gallery, Colombo, in 2000 Freedom February, Lionel Wendt Gallery, Colombo. And 2016 and 2011 at Barefoot Gallery, Colombo.

Chaminda Gamage is a contemporary artist, curator, and art researcher based in Colombo. He has received several distinctions for his work, including the State Award for the Outstanding Painter of the Year from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in 1996. His practice has been showcased in a wide range of local and international exhibitions in Austria, Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, South Korea, Pakistan, Nepal, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Thailand. 

 

He served as one of the curators of the Colombo Art Biennale in 2011, contributing to the development of contemporary art dialogue in Sri Lanka. Chaminda completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Visual Art at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo, in 2025. He currently functions as a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Visual Art of the same university, continuing his combined work in artistic practice, curatorial engagement, and research.
