Koralegedara Pushpakumara (b. 1968, Kandy, Sri Lanka) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, digital design, and installation. He received his BFA in Painting from the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, University of Kelaniya in 1997, and later completed a Diploma in Archaeology at the same university in 2003.
Pushpakumara has been widely recognized for his contributions to contemporary Sri Lankan art. He received First Place for Painting at the Youth Services Council Awards Festival in 1995, and in 1999 won First Place for Painting as well as Second Place for Installation and Sculpture at the State Festival of Arts, Sri Lanka. In 2004, he was honored with the ‘Kalasuri’ National Award, presented by the President of Sri Lanka. In 2021, he was shortlisted for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize in Hong Kong.
Active since the early 1990s, Pushpakumara was a member of the influential No Order Group and is recognized as one of the pioneering figures of the Sri Lankan ‘90s Trend. He has exhibited extensively across Sri Lanka and internationally, participating in major workshops and art events in India, Sweden, London, Pakistan, Iran, and the Netherlands.
His acclaimed “Goodwill Hardware” exhibition series, initiated in the post-war period in Sri Lanka, has received significant critical attention. Works from this series have been exhibited at Theertha Red Dot Gallery Colombo, the Colombo Art Biennale, the Dhaka Art Summit Bangladesh, Hempel Galleries Colombo, Brunei Gallery London and Gallery Exhibit320 India, among others.
In addition to his visual art practice, Pushpakumara has worked extensively as a set designer in cinema and theatre and was awarded State Awards for Set Design consecutively from 1996 through 1999. He is a core group member and director of the Theertha International Artists Collective, Colombo.
