Saman Suganda Danwatte Liyanage is a Sri Lankan visual artist whose work reflects a deep commitment to creative expression and fine arts education. Born in Horana, he pursued his early education at Rajakeeya Vidyalaya before advancing his studies at Vidyarathna University College, where his interest in art matured into a lifelong passion.
From 1996 to 2000, he completed the Four Years Certificate Course in Painting at the VAFA Academy of Fine Arts, Sri Lanka, under the guidance of respected artists Chandragupta Thenuwara and Jagath Weerasinghe. This period played a significant role in shaping his artistic identity and sharpening his technical skills.
Saman has showcased his work in numerous group exhibitions, including the VAFA Annual Exhibitions from 1997 onward, the Barefoot Gallery Exhibition in 2001, various alumni events at VAFA Gallery, Ethul Kotte, and the Stories of Small Things print exhibition held from 21st to 26th April 2012 in Bangalore. His contributions also extend to socially meaningful projects such as the Artist for Peace Flag Painting Project in 2000.
In 2010, he held his first solo exhibition titled Art of Saman Liyanage at the Theertha Red Dot Gallery, Baddagana Road South. His artistic journey continues with a dedication to exploring form, colour, and narrative, while contributing actively to Sri Lanka’s contemporary art culture.
